In this article we’ll explain how to access footer settings and enable the footer, enable the widget area and configure the footer layout.

Below we’ll explain how to enable the footer and configure the type and behaviour.

From the WordPress left menu, go to Appearance > Customize.

From the Customizer left dashboard, go to Footer.

In the Settings tab, choose between Default and Custom type.

Note: If you chose to have the Custom type, check out this section on how to create the custom footer template and use it here.

Configure the rest of the settings:
SettingDescription
BehaviorStatic or fixed. Static means it will behave normally on the page without any special effect. Fixed means it will always stay fixed at the bottom of the page no matter where you scroll.
Widget AreaEnable this option to be able to add widgets to the footer.
Sub FooterAdds a subfooter which contains menu and copyright.
Full Width (sub footer)Enable this option if you want to have the sub footer full width. Works even if your page is not full width.

As mentioned in the section above, you can choose betwen having a default and custom footer type.The difference is that the custom type let’s you create your footer template from scratch using Elementor.

To create the custom footer type template:

From the WordPress left menu, click on Elementor.

Next to My Templates title, click on the Add New button.

For the template type select Footer and give your footer a name.

Click on the Create Template button.

You will now be redirected to Elementor page editor where you can choose a footer template from the library or create your new footer from scratch using Elementor.

After creating the footer template, return to the first section of this article to learn how to assign the newly create template to your footer.


Configuring the Layout

Note: The footer layout can only be configured if you are using the Default footer type.

To change the footer layout:

From the WordPress left menu, go to Appearance > Customize.

From the Customizer left dashboard, go to Footer.

In the Footer settings, enable the Widget Area option.

After the Widget Area is enabled, you will be able to choose the Layout below.

Click on Close and Publish the changes.
