Updating Jupiter Theme and Child Theme

Jupiter WordPress theme is under active development therefore you need to keep your website updated always. There are several ways for updating theme and child theme.

In this article, we will explain three methods for updating the theme and child theme


Before the update

  • Check the Release notes page.
  • Make sure your server meets Jupiter’s technical requirements.
  • Deactivate your caching plugins temporarily.
  • Backup your website.

Updating theme automatically

We have added a new automatic update method from Jupiter version 5.1 that lets you update your theme in one-click.

To update the theme:

1From WordPress left menu, go to Jupiter > Control Panel.

2In the control panel, click on Theme Updates and then Update. Be patient until the update process is done. In some web hosts, it may take several minutes.

Updating theme via FTP

If you have problems with automatic updates, consider updating your theme via an FTP client.

1Download the theme again from ThemeForest.
2Extract the downloaded .zip file into a folder.
3Use an FTP client (like FileZilla) to access your host web server.

4In the file browser, navigate to /wp-content/themes.

5Drag and drop the extracted theme main folder into the directory.
6The FTP program will give a warning that there is an existing directory with the same name, choose Replace All.

7Once done, check the theme version in WordPress admin dashboard.

You can manually delete and install Jupiter through the WordPress dashboard. Your settings and content will be safe since it is all stored in the theme’s database.

Deleting the outdated theme version

1From WordPress left menu, go to Appearance > Themes.

2Activate one of the WordPress default themes temporarily.

3Click on Jupiter Theme Details button.

4In the bottom right corner, click on the Delete button.

Installing the updated theme version

1Download the theme again from ThemeForest.
2Extract the downloaded .zip file into a folder.
3From WordPress left menu, go to Appearance > Themes.

4Click on Add New Theme button.

5Click on Upload Theme button.

6Click on Browse and select Jupiter.zip, then click the Install Now button.

7Wait for the installation to complete.
8If the theme is installed successfully, click on the Activate button.

Updating the child theme

If there is a child theme installed and activated on your website there is no need to update it like the parent theme.

By checking Release Notes you can see if the update has changed something related to your customization in the child theme. In that case only an update to your custom code in the child theme is required.
